Lynwood Park Historic Pillars
In 1933, the first black family moved into the subdivision known as Cates Estate. The Bryant family of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania bought a house on Lynwood Drive while vacationing in Georgia. They returned to Pennsylvania, but came back to live in November, 1943.

Lynwood Park Elementary and High School, 1949 - 1968 (Now known as Lynwood Park Recreation Center)
This site was the home of the Lynwood Park Elementary and High School the home of the “Mighty Rattlers.” As the oldest predominately African American Community in DeKalb County, Lynwood Park was known for its unity, strength, and independence.

Lynwood Park Nursery, 1942 - late 1970’s
The Lynwood Park Nursery was started around 1946, a few years after the Little Red Schoolhouse was started. With the leadership of Mrs. Minerva Bennett, the 36 ladies sewing club raised money for building materials and supplies. The nursery was built by men from the community.
